Class Posters

I will need a variant of classroom posters and signs, though I think I can start working on the major ones.

Job List:

I will then need the list of jobs to go with this. As of now I am thinking about:

1. Pencil Sharpener:
• In charge of sharpening pencils at the beginning/end of the day.
2. Energy Monster:
• Responsible for making sure the lights are off when we leave the classroom.
3. Line Leader
4. Caboose
5. Teacher's Assistant:
• Responsible for helping the teacher with random tasks
6. Paper Monster:
• Passes out papers
7. Desk Inspector:
• Responsible for catching messy desks
8. Messenger:
• Responsible for delivering messages.
9. Door Monitor:
• Responsible for holding the door for the class
10. Librarian:
• Responsible for making sure the class library is clean and in order
11. Eraser:
• Responsible for erasing the board at the end of the day
12. Classroom Cleaner:
• Responsible for making sure the floor is clean
13. Calendar:
• Does calendar for the week
14. Lunch counter:
• Responsible for counting the daily lunches and taking it to the office

Birthdays:

Just a poster that will go next to the list of birthdays. Right now I am hoping to give each student a small monster themed baggy on their birthday.

I plan to take students pictures on their first day and have them color their own card then put the picture on the card and laminate it.

These are just a few to get started. I will need to project these on the wall, trace, color, cut, and laminate these. So lots to still do just for the decorations, though I think things will turn out well. I plan to post a few more ideas that deal more with classroom management soon and physical space ideas when I actually get access to my room. I should also be posting some ideas for beginning of the year activities soon enough. My school is also invested in BIST and Daily 5 so I hope to post some ideas about that sooner or later.

Gearing Up for Second Grade

Here I am, starting a new blog in the hopes that it will help me organize my thoughts and get ready for a new school year, in a new school, in a new grade, with almost all new people. I have found an amazing blog that gave me the inspiration to get started on this. In this blog, the author wrote all about having a Pixar themed classroom. I really think this is a great idea so, I have decided to make my classroom a  "Monsters U" theme. With that in mind, here is what I want to do with this blog:

1. Organize theme posters and decorations for my new classroom.
2. Decide how I want to setup the physical space in my classroom.
3. Determine what classroom jobs and routines I want to set up.
4. Outline my classroom management plan.

These are very broad goals, but I think they will provide me with enough guidance that I won't end up cramming all my readiness into the last week or two of summer.

So in the immortal words of the Joker, "Here....we...go."
